The president of Joe Gibbs Racing is optimistic the organization will sign #18-Kyle Busch to an extension.

“I feel good that we’ll get it all together,” J.D. Gibbs said before Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway in which Busch will start on the pole. “I’m not going to say anything official, but we feel good about it.”

Busch is entering the last year of his contract in 2013. There had been speculation he might go to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014. Sources told ESPN.com’s Marty Smith on Friday that SHR has signed Richard Childress Racing’s Kevin Harvick for the 2014 season and would go to four cars with Harvick, Tony Stewart, Danica Patrick and Ryan Newman if he re-signs after next season.

Gibbs wouldn’t confirm whether an extension with Busch would be signed before next season, but remained adamant he wants to get it done sooner rather than later. Busch was not available for comment. (ESPN)
