After fainting at an autograph appearance Saturday at Martinsville Speedway, NASCAR driver Kyle Larson was awaiting results of tests by a neurologist at Carolinas Medical Center, his team said.

John Olguin, vice president of communications for Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, said Larson was evaluated by doctors at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.

“(They) felt that everything checked out well for Kyle Larson, however, just to be safe, they felt he should also be evaluated by a neurologist,” Olguin said in a statement via email. “Martinsville Memorial Hospital did not have one available so they decided to have Larson make the short trip to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte to be evaluated by one. Larson arrived late this evening to Charlotte, feels fine and is just awaiting a final evaluation at CMC which we hope to have the results of later this evening.”

Larson, 22, initially went to the infield care center after losing consciousness while signing for fans. Track doctors sent him to Martinsville Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. He was awake and alert while being transported.

Larson is scheduled to start seventh in Sunday’s STP 500 at Martinsville. The 20014 Sprint Cup rookie of the year is ranked 18th in the Sprint Cup points standings entering the race.
