Austin Theriault, the Camping World Truck Series driver hurt in Saturday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, believes he’ll be back on the track in 2015, his father told a hometown newspaper in Maine.

“He fully intends to race again this season,” Steve Theriault told the Bangor Daily News. “He is still extremely sore. But he is in good spirits.”

Theriault, a native of Fort Kent, Maine, suffered a 10 percent compression fracture of his lower back when his No. 29 Ford truck made contact with teammate Tyler Reddick on Lap 14 and then plowed nose first into the outside wall on the frontstretch.

The section of the wall he hit was unprotected by SAFER barrier. The Brad Keselowski Raing driver was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital where the diagnosis was made.

“He is resting today, but he has been walking around,” the elder Theriault said.

Austin Theriault, 21, is expected to visit a North Carolina doctor today for further examination.

Theriault has competed in eight Truck races in 2015 and has two top-five finishes at Daytona International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
